James V. Bellanca, III, who graduated Cum Laude from Wayne State University Law School has joined the team at Carlin Brown Edwards. For the last 17 years Jim has specialized in corporate and real estate law from drafting, documenting and negotiating a wide range of transactional matters, including merger and acquisition documents. Jim has served as counsel to several closely held corporations on day-to-day business matters, including contractual disputes, employment questions, complex real estate issues, and business organizational matters. It is this expertise and experience that he brings to the firm’s liquor licensing practice. Several of Jim’s clients have been and will continue to be clients of the firm in connection with their liquor related businesses. In addition to his business and corporate practice, Jim has a significant probate administration practice assisting clients in the administration of guardianships, conservatorships and decedents estates, as well as estate planning.
Jim was selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as a “Rising Star” in the business/corporate practice area and Super Lawyers’ Annual Listing for top lawyers in Michigan in 2011 and 2013. He is the third generation of Bellanca’s to be admitted to the Michigan Bar. He has proudly followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and two uncles in the practice of the law.
Jim will use his business and real estate expertise to assist clients of the firm in the acquisition or sale of existing businesses and related real estate, corporate organization, landlord-tenant matters and lease negotiations. He is also well qualified to negotiate appropriate resolutions with the Attorney General’s Office when necessary and to interact with the MLCC Hearing Commissioners in business matters in order to achieve the best possible result in connection with the maintenance and application process for licensing under Michigan’s complex Liquor Control Act.
